at neiman marcus the other day, hunting for a watch strap for mila. expecting blow-out economic stimulus prices, we enquired after some modest-looking watch bands in the display case:

"how much for those bands?"

"well, they start at about $150, and for the lizard we move to about $180, and then into the $200s for the alligator."

"and for the flizard?" I asked.

the woman did not reply. so much for trying to move merchandise in the face of an economic crisis.
